Check list, start engines, test and takeoff in Corning NY Sept 2007 at the Ferrari Meeting. From Wikipedia: Numerous attempts were made to design a “DC-3 replacement”, over the next three decades (including the very successful Fokker Friendship) but no single type could match the versatility, rugged reliability and economy of the DC-3 and it remained a significant part of air transport systems, well into the 1970s. from www.douglasdc3.com Buzz Meyer who is restoring a DC-3 in the livery of Eastern Airlines to flying condition had this to say….. In Short, operating costs are approximately 0 to 0 per hour, depending on what you set aside for engine and airframe overhaul. You would burn 90-100 gallons of fuel per hour, and 2 gallons of oil per hour. A DC-3 is about the least expensive large airplane that a couple guys can afford to work with. Parts are generally available. Skilled DC-3 mechanics are getting rare, and DC-3 pilots can still be trained at about 0 per hour for lessons. Commenters dougdax todd279910
As we say it in Holland ( the Netherlands ) Old is gold
this was done in those days when the camera still showed the blurry prop spin…. love it. today, it looks like they are not moving…..
Thanks….

@crabmaniac1 – Why would you NOT fly a DC3 if the chance came?
An absolutly fine machine. I flew in one in Indonesia and they are workhorses that can land on “not perfect” runway surfaces. Island hopping is a piece of piss!
“Rock n’ roll” YOU SAID IT!!
whow greatfull sound, greatfull plane!
father and grandma scarred, remember its like airattack sound @ww2!!
The 1st time I never was in an aircraft was a dc3 it was owned by Wabush mines in n Quebec. The call letters were CWIC.
My envy is off the scale.
How can you fly a DC3?
@Xlay16 i get the pleasure of riding the colling’s foundation planes every summer, and they rock garmin’s…do u seriously expect them to not have semi-modern avionics in their planes on every tour…CMON MAN
met les at oxc….nice guy, love the flying mag articles
Had my first experience in flight in that airplane in june 2007. A 1 hour trip for 150$ in a 70 year old piece of history. That was great. Thanks to the crew for letting us sit in the cockpit for a while while up in the air. It’s a little weird to see all the electronics but everything else was authentic
To each his own on the modern equipment. A few modern items add safety although take away from the nostalgic appearance. I got to fly DC-3s for a charter company and 911 seemed to signal the end of the DC-3 flying cargo. So few operators carrying cargo now. There is still simply no replacement for the DC-3. It could carry a heavy load a long way. Love to see them in the air. Don’t ever want to see one scrapped- not even an old engineless hulk on an airport. Save them all!
@angelica14709 i wish it would come around here to east tn. ive flown in aluminum overcast. it had a gps of some sort in it. ( a ww2 b17) i dont see pathetic, i see safe. if hed rather see unsafe aircraft, id rather not be anywhere near an aircraft with him. anyways sir/,ma’am, thank you for allowing me to relive my trip again
Ahhh hearing those engines crank up makes me think about my world war 2 days….wait im only 16
@angelica14709 i see were your comin from how yuo upgraded it so it lessens the chance of gee i dont know a crash. your just trying to keep it in the air for as long as you can and they cant see that.
@gladanka corse not
The sound is perfect so many vids don’t show you how loud the engines are or the microphone can’t catch it….
@Xlay16 You’re kidding right?
OPS!!! Starter engine 2 e depois engine1? Não é contrário? Engine one e após engine thue?

I got to fly on this aircraft after the Stuart, FL airshow. First radial engine aircraft I have ever flown in. What a treat, and a very enjoyable ride. The wonderful sound of those 2 radials is something special. The stewardess was dressed in a period uniform. Very cool !!
