Paula Held and Andrew Hardin at Anderson Fair, Friday April 20

Paula Held and Andrew Hardin at Anderson Fair, Friday April 20
Event on 2012-04-20 21:00:00
It's an honor and a privilege to perform again at Anderson Fair. "In this age of fast food music, synthesized to a bland sameness and lip synched perfection, the tradition of the troubadour and his modern incarnation, the singer/songwriter, is safely harbored within the walls of Anderson Fair." ABOUT PAULA AND ANDREW
Paula is an award-winning, Austin-based songwriter and performer. Her music is informed by a variety of influences from classical music and popular jazz, to folk, rock & blues. She has appeared regularly in such venues as Momo's, the Bugle Boy, the Cactus Cafe and Anderson Fair and on the stage at the Bluebird Cafe, Labyrinth Walk Coffeehouse and Uncle Calvin's. Paula's music is described as lyrically rich, melodic and sensual. Her sound is a blend of folk, jazz and blues, tied together by a voice cited as reminiscent of Eva Cassidy and Nora Jones.

Paula's 2010 debut album, DRIVE was produced & arranged by legendary Austin producer Stephen Doster. The album features notable session players such as Stephen, Red Young (Eric Burdon), Ephraim Owens, J.J. Johnson (John Mayer), Chris Maresh and Dennis Ludiker (South Austin Jug Band, Texas State Fiddle Champion). Track 4, You're My Falling Star, won as finalist in the 2010 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, in addition to Leavin' Happy (Single – 2011).

"Held adds new ideas to the jazz-related work of now famous female artists like Norah Jones, Diana Krall and Madeleine Peyroux. Her songs are beautiful, the melody lines fine, her voice is flexible and sultry, [and] the accompaniment is excellent …" ~ Fred Schmale, Real Roots Cafe, The Netherlands

A note from a fan from our last show at AFair in Feb, 2012:
"Paula is a superb song crafts-person with emotion to spare and a good story at every turn. Andrew is a mellifluous player and an entertaining chap in his own right. I highly recommend that if you see either of these names on the schedule of your favorite club that you leave the dishes for tomorrow and go check them out. Beautiful people, beautiful music, and a chemistry worth investigating!" ~ Ron Welch of the Swinging Gringos (Houston, TX)

ANDREW HARDIN
www.andrewhardin.com

Andrew Hardin was singer-songwriter Tom Russell's right hand man for more than 20 years, touring & recording in the 1980's and early 90's as The Tom Russell Band's fire-breathing, country-rock electric- guitar slinger, producing or co-producing several of Russell's albums and, through 2005, touring internationally with Russell as an acoustic duo. He has recorded four guitar oriented CDs, and has performed and/or recorded with such artists as Jimmy Lafave, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Eliza Gilkyson, Dave Alvin, Don Edwards, Butch Hancock, and others.

"The lanky New Yorker ran down country and flamenco on his acoustic with all the flair of 100 mariachis and 1,000 honky-tonkers." – Austin Chronicle

"After our early show at the Cattle Guard a couple of restless Gringos stopped in at Anderson Fair where we were thrown smack-dab in the middle of wonderful show by Paula Held who was on this particular evening backed by the brilliant riffs of my fellow Jimmy LaFave alumnus, Andrew Hardin. All I can say is, when you're hot, you're hot, and these guys were cooking." ~ Ron Welch of the Swinging Gringos (Houston, TX)
